About Retatrutide

Retatrutide is a once-weekly injectable synthetic peptide developed by Eli Lilly. It belongs to a novel class of metabolic medicines being studied for the treatment of obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).

Unlike earlier therapies that target one or two metabolic pathways, retatrutide is a triple hormone receptor agonist. It is engineered to concurrently activate three distinct hormone receptors, addressing appetite, glucose metabolism, and energy expenditure within a single molecule.

While medications like semaglutide (Wegovy/Ozempic) target a single pathway (GLP-1), and tirzepatide (Mounjaro) targets two (GLP-1 and GIP), retatrutide adds a third mechanism. By addressing these overlapping hormonal dysregulations simultaneously, it achieves a synergistic effect across multiple organ systems.
